A Unique Approach to Giving Back
Nestled in the heart of Watertown's historic downtown district, the Blue Butterfly Thrift Store has been a resident of the Masonic Temple which is more than just a place to find a bargain. It's a community hub that's making a significant impact on the lives of many.
As Ashley Wenninger, the dedicated store manager shared in an interview, "Yes, the bridge has impacted the downtown, but the community is amazing."
More Than Just a Thrift Store
The Blue Butterfly Thrift Store is not your average thrift shop. It's a fundraising tool for a variety of local non-profits, including Christian Family Solutions and Alpha Resource Center. The money raised through the store goes directly towards supporting essential services like mental health counseling, senior care, and pregnancy crisis support.
One of the store's primary focuses is on teen mental health. Through its partnership with the Strong Program in Milwaukee, the store helps provide intensive day treatment for children ages 4-15 who have experienced trauma or abuse. Ashley explained, "This year, we've been putting all our money aside to support these programs. We want to make a real difference in the lives of these young people."
A Community-Focused Approach
Beyond its support for local non-profits, the Blue Butterfly Thrift Store is actively involved in the community. They organize fundraising events, such as a recent campaign to help families who lost loved ones in a tragic accident. The store also donates to organizations like Camp Hometown Heroes, which supports children who have lost parents in military service.
Ashley's passion for the store is evident. "My job is to raise money and partner with people who can help others," she said. "I want to provide a safe place for people to share their stories and receive the support they need."
A Historic Setting
The Blue Butterfly Thrift Store is housed in the historic Masonic Temple, an iconic historic building, which adds to its charm. The store's location in downtown Watertown offers easy access for both locals and visitors. Currently you have to use the back parking lot entrance until construction ends.
A Bright Future
As the Blue Butterfly Thrift Store continues to grow, its impact on the community will only increase. With a focus on providing quality items at affordable prices and supporting vital services, the store is poised to become a beloved institution in Watertown and beyond.
